Student attrition before and after modifications in distance course delivery

Abstract

This paper chronicles the changes in student attrition/retention and final grade attainment before and after changes to a first year university on-line course. The main change to course delivery from first to second year was the development of an on-line community and greater student:student:lecturer interaction. Discussion of the various Blackboard communication options utilised and evidence of improved retention and grade standing are provided.
